How do I learn to cut and facet stones?

I want to learn how to cut and facet colored stones. Ideally, I would take actual classes at an accredited institution. I have seen hobby classes offered with lapidary classes, and gem-grading classes at GIA, but no intense education to learn simply faceting. Ideas?

I don’t know for certain,but my guess would be that it is the sort of thing that one might serve an as apprentice. Particularly in the area of gemstones. The lapidary and gem-grading class might be a good start especially for information on taking that next step. My ex-wife got her Bachelor’s of Fine Art majoring in jewelry. Making jewelry and setting her own stones. At one point,during her college days, she worked for a jewelry manufacturer but the setting and cutting of stones were left to a bunch of old crotchety men that reminded her of elves. It sounded like a very chauvinistic situation. They seemed to have a hold on that aspect of the process. Good luck.
