Cretaceous Fossil
How can plants survive?

The history of life has been punctuated by several mass extinctions. For example, the impact of a meteorite may have wiped out most of the dinosaurs and many forms of Marine Life at the end of the Cretaceous period. Fossils indicate that plants were less severely affected by this and other mass extinctions. What adaptations may have enabled plants to withstand these disasters better than animals?

plants are ultimate survivors, rip a leaf off a plant, not much happends, rip an organ from an animal, its dead. their you go.

Hell Creek: 65 Million Years in the Past, the Journey Begins

Hell Creek: 65 Million Years in the Past, the Journey Begins

$126.02

The Hell Creek fossil bed is a paleontologist’s dream…. until the fossils come to life. A long-extinct beetle is created in a particle physics lab. An unstable Graviton Vault hurls four-and-a-half people and a dog onto a beach inhabited by toothed gulls and fifty-foot crocodiles. There will be no rescue party: for paleontologist Julian Whitney must convince his companions that they are still in the same location – 65-million years in the past, at the end of the Age of Dinosaurs. How can they hope to return home, with the Vault perhaps destroyed, and a hypothetical reversion point a thousand miles away in the Cretaceous wilderness? 65-million years in the future, police chief Sharon Earles tries to solve the mystery of exactly half a body remaining where five people had been moments before. Physicists are brought in to repair the equipment and figure out what went wrong. But can they get the Vault running in time to retrieve the missing people…and do they want to? Most prehistoric fiction brings dinosaurs into our time, where they clash with Man’s synthetic world. Hell Creek does the opposite. From the great Inland Sea to the foothills of the infant Rocky Mountains, we are shown the entirety of an ecosystem. The authors’ scientific knowledge of Earth’s geologic and evolutionary history gives the story, and the titanic animals it is centered around, a realism that is refreshing – and immensely entertaining.

 The Dawn Angiosperms

The Dawn Angiosperms

$129

This book is about fossil plants of so-called pre-historic angiosperms. It reflects the newest progress in research on the origin of angiosperms, and will definitely trigger many new ideas in research. It emphasizes the early Cretaceous and Jurassic materials, rather than later ones, as they are the key periods for the origin of angiosperms. The author integrates multiple techniques, including SEM, TEM, light microscopy, peeling and cladistics, to study the morphology, anatomy and phylogeny of the fossils. Several Jurassic materials of angiosperms that have never been reported before are included, these used to be thought as pre-historic for flowering plants. Two more fossils angiosperms from the Yixian Formation, where Archaefructus was excavated, are reported. Newer and stricter criterion for identifying fossil angiosperms is proposed.
